Distance: Local sightseeing in Lhasa | Meals: Breakfast, Sichuan-style Lunch, Sichuan-style Dinner | Accommodation: Hotel in Lhasa
Begin with the Potala Palace, the landmark that dominates Lhasa from Red Hill. Inside, the route passes through former living quarters, chapels, murals, thangkas and golden memorial stupas connected with successive Dalai Lamas.
The itinerary also includes the complimentary Potala Palace afternoon tea before continuing into the old city.
Visit Jokhang Temple, the spiritual center of Tibetan Buddhism and home to the revered Jowo Shakyamuni image. Outside, pilgrims continue their clockwise kora through the streets around the temple and Barkhor area.
Later, stop at Yaowang Hill Viewpoint for one of the classic front-facing views of the Potala Palace. The angle is familiar from the reverse side of China's RMB 50 banknote.
The evening finishes with the Princess Wencheng outdoor performance, scheduled from about 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
CHIBET Travel Advice: Potala Palace entry times are assigned in advance and may change the sightseeing order. Photography is restricted inside parts of Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. The Princess Wencheng show ends late, so expect a long day.
