9 Days Tibet Tour from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore: Chengdu, Nyingchi, Lhasa, Yamdrok

$1,760.00

The middle of the trip stays around Lhasa. Basum Tso breaks up the long drive from Nyingchi, then the city days cover the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Yaowang Hill Viewpoint and a late-evening Princess Wencheng performance. A separate day trip reaches Yamdrok Lake before returning to Lhasa for a Tibetan costume photography experience.

The return journey uses the Qinghai-Tibet Railway from Lhasa to Xining, followed by an included flight from Xining to Chengdu. 9-Day Tibet Tour from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Kuala Lumpur / Singapore – Chengdu | Arrival and Airport Hotel

Distance: International flight + airport transfer | Meals: None | Accommodation: Hotel in Chengdu

Guests join the tour from either Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. The included international airfare covers the journey from your departure city to Chengdu. Depending on the issued ticket, the flight may include a transit stop before arrival in Chengdu.

After arrival in Chengdu, transfer to the hotel and leave the rest of the day free to rest. The tour returns you to the same departure city – Kuala Lumpur or Singapore – at the end of the journey, with the final routing and any transit stop based on the confirmed airline ticket.

Day 2: Chengdu – Nyingchi – Lulang – Sejila Pass – Nyingchi | Forests, Pasture and Namcha Barwa

Distance: Approx. 140 km from Nyingchi Airport to Lulang, about 2 hrs one way | Meals: Breakfast, Lulang Stone Pot Chicken Lunch, Sichuan-style Dinner | Accommodation: Hotel in Nyingchi

Travel from Chengdu to Nyingchi, where the local team welcomes the group before the drive toward Lulang. The road climbs toward Sejila Pass at about 4,515 meters, with forested slopes spreading below the high road.

When the weather is clear, this is one of the strongest viewpoints for Mount Namcha Barwa. The peak is often hidden by cloud, so the view can appear briefly rather than staying open all afternoon.

Continue into Lulang Forest and the surrounding pastureland. Snow mountains rise behind dense forest, while yak and sheep graze around Tibetan-style wooden houses on the lower slopes.

At the pasture, the itinerary includes horseback riding and traditional archery. Lunch is the local Lulang Stone Pot Chicken before the group returns to Nyingchi later in the day.

CHIBET Travel Advice: Sejila Pass is much higher than Nyingchi. Keep the stop comfortable rather than rushing around, and follow the guide's safety instructions during horseback riding.

Day 3: Nyingchi – Basum Tso – Tsodzong Monastery – Lhasa | Lake, River Valley and Potala Night View

Distance: Approx. 480 km, about 8 hrs driving | Meals: Breakfast, Sichuan-style Lunch, Welcome Dinner | Accommodation: Hotel in Lhasa

Leave Nyingchi and follow the Niyang River west. The river, farmland, waterbirds and Tibetan villages give the first part of the day a much greener feel than the central plateau around Lhasa.

Stop at Basum Tso, an alpine lake surrounded by forest and snow mountains. Cross toward the small island and visit Tsodzong Monastery, then take time to look back across the lake before the long drive continues.

The route continues west past highland grassland and river scenery before reaching Lhasa in the afternoon. After check-in and the welcome dinner, the itinerary also includes a look at the illuminated Potala Palace at night.

After reaching Lhasa, a basic health check is arranged for each traveler as part of the group support service. The doctor checks your general condition after the change in altitude and can advise the group if anyone is feeling unwell.

CHIBET Travel Advice: This is a long road day after only one night in Nyingchi. Keep the evening flexible if the group is tired or anyone is feeling the altitude.

Day 4: Lhasa | Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Yaowang Hill & Princess Wencheng Show

Distance: Local sightseeing in Lhasa | Meals: Breakfast, Sichuan-style Lunch, Sichuan-style Dinner | Accommodation: Hotel in Lhasa

Begin with the Potala Palace, the landmark that dominates Lhasa from Red Hill. Inside, the route passes through former living quarters, chapels, murals, thangkas and golden memorial stupas connected with successive Dalai Lamas.

The itinerary also includes the complimentary Potala Palace afternoon tea before continuing into the old city.

Visit Jokhang Temple, the spiritual center of Tibetan Buddhism and home to the revered Jowo Shakyamuni image. Outside, pilgrims continue their clockwise kora through the streets around the temple and Barkhor area.

Later, stop at Yaowang Hill Viewpoint for one of the classic front-facing views of the Potala Palace. The angle is familiar from the reverse side of China's RMB 50 banknote.

The evening finishes with the Princess Wencheng outdoor performance, scheduled from about 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

CHIBET Travel Advice: Potala Palace entry times are assigned in advance and may change the sightseeing order. Photography is restricted inside parts of Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. The Princess Wencheng show ends late, so expect a long day.

Day 5: Lhasa – Yamdrok Lake – Lhasa | Sacred Lake and Tibetan Costume Photography

Distance: Full-day round trip from Lhasa | Meals: Breakfast, Sichuan-style Lunch, Sichuan-style Dinner | Accommodation: Hotel in Lhasa

Leave Lhasa in the morning and drive toward Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's three sacred lakes. From the high road, the water winds between dry mountain ridges in shifting shades of blue and turquoise.

Descend toward the lakeshore for a closer look at the water, villages and grazing animals before returning to Lhasa later in the day.

The itinerary also includes a Tibetan costume photography experience in Lhasa, with traditional dress used for a set of travel portraits.

CHIBET Travel Advice: Yamdrok Lake sits well above Lhasa and can be cold and windy even in clear weather. Keep a warm layer in the vehicle and avoid rushing at the high viewpoints.

Day 6: Lhasa – Xining | Qinghai-Tibet Railway

Distance: Overnight rail journey | Meals: Breakfast; Lunch and Dinner on the train at own expense | Accommodation: Soft sleeper on the train

After breakfast, transfer to the railway station and board the train for Xining. The itinerary plans a morning departure so more of the plateau scenery can be seen in daylight.

The route crosses the high plateau through the Kekexili region, where Tibetan antelope, yak and other wildlife may sometimes be seen from the train. Farther north, the line passes through the Kunlun and Tanggula mountain areas, with grassland, lakes and broad open valleys outside the window.

Spend the night in a soft-sleeper berth as the train continues toward Xining.

CHIBET Travel Advice: Train numbers and departure times can change with ticket availability. Keep medication, toiletries, snacks and valuables in a smaller overnight bag.

Day 7: Xining – Chengdu by Flight | Free Time at Kuanzhai Alley, Chunxi Road & Taikoo Li

Distance: Xining-Chengdu flight + airport transfer + independent city exploration | Meals: None | Accommodation: Hotel in Chengdu

After arriving in Xining, transfer to the airport and take the included flight to Chengdu. On arrival, transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is left free rather than organized as a guided city tour.

Kuanzhai Alley is one option for a slower walk through preserved lanes and courtyard-style architecture. For a more modern side of the city, Chunxi Road and Taikoo Li bring together shopping, restaurants and some of central Chengdu's busiest pedestrian areas.

Use the day at your own pace. There is no fixed sightseeing sequence in the source itinerary.

Day 8: Chengdu | Giant Panda Base and Airport Transfer

Distance: Local sightseeing + airport transfer | Meals: Breakfast, Chengdu Hotpot Lunch, Sichuan-style Dinner | Accommodation: Overnight flight

Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a large conservation and breeding center in the northern part of the city. Bamboo-covered enclosures are home to giant pandas as well as other protected species.

After the panda visit, continue with the meals listed in the itinerary before transferring to the airport. The included international ticket begins the return journey from Chengdu to the same departure city – Kuala Lumpur or Singapore – with a transit stop if required by the confirmed flight routing.

The night is spent on the flight rather than in a Chengdu hotel.

CHIBET Travel Advice: Pandas are usually more active in the cooler morning hours. The actual time available at the base depends on the confirmed outbound flight schedule.

Day 9: Transit City – Kuala Lumpur / Singapore | Journey Ends

Distance: Connecting international flight | Meals: None | Accommodation: None

Continue through the transit city, if required by the issued ticket, and complete the journey to the same city where you joined the tour: Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

The 9-day journey ends on arrival.
